Systems theory of family therapy usually has a dictum- the index patient ( The one who presents with a mental illness to the psychiatrist ) is the most normal person in the family , unable to keep up the unhealthy homeostasis.

Read it long ago. Must refresh . The ” Scapegoating” concept of Bowen’s family systems theory will fascinate you. Thank you for your deep interest in group behaviors, the smallest unit being the family. That acts as a template for all other relationships later in life.
