what is that
what does it do
gives you a high
yes – you
are you going somewhere
so why do i
need a fake high.

Are you going somewhere ? No…..
The most powerful line in the poem.
Placebo is not for a high , it is to relieve pain by faith the patient has in the medicine, that is not a medicine.
Thank you for the poem.

many thanks for your response to my poem and for the correction that placebo is only used for pain rather than my mistaken impression it can be used in cases involving depression, anxiety, fatigue, and some symptoms of parkinson’s. also, i thank you for correcting my impression that a “meaning response” to placebos – when a recipient of a placebo perceives an improvement in his/her condition and responds better to treatment due to his/her personal expectations or optimism about the treatment cannot be considered a ‘high’. here i am thinking positive expectation or optimism is some kind of ‘high’.

Nocebo effect is when a real medicine does not work because of negative expectations / a belief that it will not work.
Doctors are flummoxed by this effect !
Sometimes the same medicine with different brands given by different doctors has different effects ! Some of the doctor effects also exist.
This small poem is when faking was not faking because the actor does not know what is real not even in imagination.
And why would I fake a high ?
How innocent can innocence be ?
Not knowing a high ever
watching a movie and faking it
Till she feels an inkling after
years of numbness
and searing pain…..
The only real liar is the one who believed her own lie……
